Resident Doctors Ban 24-Hour Calls, Demand Safer Work Conditions

The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has barred its members from working continuous shifts beyond 24 hours, citing the dangerous toll on young doctors.

In a communiqué signed by its leaders, NARD mandated compulsory rest after every call, stressing that self-preservation is essential for both doctors and patients.

The association urged the Federal Government to enforce a one-to-one replacement policy to ease the workload and strictly regulate call hours, noting that doctors who remain in Nigeria despite mass emigration are patriots deserving fair protection and compensation.
