Customs Partners Wrestling Federation to Promote Youth Empowerment

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Tin Can Island Port Command, says its partnership with the Nigerian Professional Wrestling Federation (NPWF) aims to promote professional wrestling in the country and empower Nigerian youths.

The Command hosted the leadership of the NPWF on Tuesday to formalize arrangements supporting the federation’s upcoming activities.

According to a statement signed by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSC Oscar Ivara, and made available to newsmen in Lagos on Wednesday, the Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Frank Onyeka, received the NPWF delegation led by its National President, John Uche, at the Command’s headquarters.

Ivara stated that the visit was to brief the Command on the forthcoming African International Wrestling Championship, scheduled to hold from October 18 to 19 at the Dr. Alex Ekwueme Square, Awka, Anambra State.

Quoting Uche, the statement noted that the international event would feature wrestling legends and emerging talents from Nigeria, the United States, the United Kingdom, France, and several African countries.

“The championship is aimed at showcasing Nigeria’s untapped wrestling potential while serving as a platform to empower no fewer than 100 Nigerian youths through grassroots development programmes,” Uche said.

He added that the federation’s broader objectives include curbing youth restiveness, reducing poverty, and creating sustainable job opportunities through sports.

In his remarks, Comptroller Onyeka commended the federation for its efforts in promoting domestic sports and youth engagement.

He expressed appreciation for the NPWF’s recognition of the Nigeria Customs Service as a strategic partner and reaffirmed the Service’s commitment to supporting youth development and grassroots sports under the leadership of the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR, psc.

The visit also featured the unveiling of the championship trophy and the presentation of an Award of Excellence to the Command for its outstanding contributions to youth and sports development.
