Sanwo-Olu Pledges Health Subsidy for Lagos Vulnerable Residents

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to ensuring access to quality healthcare for all residents, with a pledge to provide health subsidies for the state’s vulnerable population.

The governor also reiterated his government’s goal of building a world-class, technology-driven healthcare system, noting that Lagos is “rewriting the story of healthcare in the twenty-first century.”

He made the remarks at the maiden Eko Health Convention 2025, held at The Jewel Aeida, Lekki, with the theme “Lagos Health: Driving Innovation, Strengthening Systems, Leading Change.”

The event brought together policymakers, health professionals, and development partners to assess ongoing health reforms and set new priorities for the sector.

Represented by the Deputy Governor, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, Sanwo-Olu emphasized that universal health coverage requires a shared pool of resources.

He disclosed that the state plans to expand subsidies for vulnerable groups and strengthen community-based enrollment through pharmacies and markets, targeting a 15 percent coverage rate in the coming years.
