Lagos Lawmakers Emphasize Importance of Unity for Progress

The draws and profiling of participants for this year’s edition of Lagos Speaker’s Games have been concluded as the preparations for the event reaches final stages.

Lawmakers and representatives of participating teams from Ministries, Department and Agencies, Local Government and others were present as the fixtures for the male and female football were picked.

Speaking during the event, the Deputy Speaker of the Lagos House of Assembly, Mrs. Mojisola Meranda, who said the annual event has always lived up to its billing as a rally point for civil and public servants in the state, called on participant to uphold the spirit of sportsmanship throughout the thirty-day competition.

“This is the 2025 edition, and I would like each and every one of us to participate fully and have the spirit of sportsmanship. We can only have winners in all categories, but there are no losers anywhere,” she said.

“Let’s bear with ourselves for the next 30 days as we go through the various sporting events until the grand finale.

Thank you all for your time and commitment,” she added.

The Chairman, House Committee on Youth and Social Development, Mr. Abiodun Orekoya who highlighted the importance of sports in the coexistence of residents of Lagos, noted that the games is an avenue to celebrate unity that has existed in the state public service.

Today, we gather not just as competitors, but as a community bound by shared passion and the values of teamwork, respect, and fair play.

In a remark, the Clerk of the House, Mr. Olalekan Onafeko appreciated the efforts of the organisers and assured participants a pleasant edition of the games.

The event will feature included Football, Volleyball, Table Tennis, Basketball, Tug ‘O’ War, Ludo, Ayo Olopon and Draft, with the competitions in both male and female categories.

The Games is part of activities to commemorate the birthday of the Speaker, Chief Mudashiru Obasa
