Some health experts on Sunday emphasized the importance of couples addressing fertility issues and prioritizing mental wellness to strengthen marriage security and social harmony.
The experts spoke at the 2025 Bounties Charity Initiative Muslimah Health Forum, held at Eko Club, Surulere, Lagos, to educate participants on essential health practices.
The theme of the event was “Healing Within: Reclaiming Hormones, Health and Hope — Hormonal Struggles, Mental Burnout and Body Image Pain.”
Participants engaged in yoga sessions, received free oral checks, blood sugar and blood pressure tests, and were treated for minor health issues.
Those requiring further medical attention were referred to appropriate health institutions.
Bounties, a non-governmental organization (NGO) dedicated to women’s empowerment through education, collaboration, and resource sharing, provides support frameworks especially for needy Muslim women.
At the forum, panelists educated participants on menstrual hygiene, fertility management, stress control, and sanitation practices—all geared toward fostering healthier families and communities.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Rabiu Fatimat Amoke, a consultant gynecologist, advised women to understand their hormonal patterns and seek medical help early for any imbalance that could affect conception.
She explained that some couples who married as virgins might face initial sexual challenges due to physiological factors but should seek professional guidance rather than endure frustration.
“Maintain a healthy lifestyle as a ‘Trying to Conceive (TTC)’ woman. Reduce stress, delegate chores, and avoid burnout. Couples should undergo fertility tests together and follow expert advice,” she said.
Dr. Amoke also encouraged women to monitor their ovulation cycles, stay spiritually and mentally balanced, eat fibre-rich foods, stay hydrated, and exercise regularly.
In her remarks, Dr. Qudrah Badru, a dietitian, urged women to avoid junk food and embrace natural meals to strengthen the immune system.
She recommended fibre-rich fruits such as oranges, garden eggs, bananas, and guavas as vital for maintaining overall health.
