Edo Assembly to Probe Multi-Billion Naira Obaseki-Era Projects

The Edo State House of Assembly is set to constitute an ad hoc committee to investigate two major projects initiated by the immediate-past administration of Governor Godwin Obaseki.

This follows an official letter from the state government, read on the floor of the House on Tuesday, directing the lawmakers to probe the Radisson Blu Hotel and the Edo Museum of West African Art (EMOWAA).

The letter, signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Musa Ikhilo, was read by the Clerk of the House, Alhaji Audu Omogbai.

The Speaker of the House, Mr. Blessing Agbebaku, announced that the special investigative committee would be formed at the next legislative sitting to scrutinize the projects.

In Other Parliamentary Business, the Assembly also received a second letter from Governor Monday Okpebholo, also signed by the SSG, requesting the screening and confirmation of nominees for the Edo State Judicial Service Commission.

The Speaker referred this request to the House Committee on Judiciary for swift action.

In a significant move for the health sector, the House passed a bill for a second reading that seeks to repeal the outdated Edo State Private Health Facility (Prohibition) Law of 1984.

The new bill aims to establish the Edo Healthcare Regulation and Monitoring Agency (EDOHERMA) to modernize the oversight of healthcare facilities across the state.
