LASHMA Launches Nigeria’s First Health Insurance Online Radio

The Lagos State Health Management Agency (LASHMA) has launched Nigeria’s first Health Insurance Online Radio, called ILERA EKO Spotlight, to boost awareness about the state’s mandatory social health insurance scheme and advance universal health coverage.

Speaking at the launch during the 2025 Quarter 3 Media Parley in Alausa-Ikeja, the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Emmanuella Zamba, said the station will serve as a platform for public engagement and health education.

She urged journalists to continue supporting the agency’s enlightenment campaigns, while assuring residents that recent technical challenges were due to ongoing ICT upgrades aimed at improving service delivery.

Dr. Zamba noted that ILERA EKO Spotlight will broadcast daily from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., featuring health talks, interviews, and updates on the ILERA EKO Scheme.

Representing the Ministry of Information, Mr. Olanrewaju Bajulaiye, through Dr. Olajide Atansuyi, described the initiative as a milestone in health communication, saying a healthy population is vital to Lagos’ development.

LASHMA’s Director of Public Affairs, Ms. Adeyinka Gbemibade, said the platform will feature interactive programmes for youth, women, and the elderly.

The event also highlighted the success of ILERA EKO Telehealth and Virtual Booth Initiatives, which allow residents to access affordable consultations and mental health services.

It ended with the symbolic launch of the online radio — another bold step toward universal health coverage in Lagos
