As the year winds down and travel activities intensify, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has renewed its call for motorists to remain vigilant, focused, and responsible on the road — reminding Nigerians that every life matters.
The appeal came from the Lagos Island Unit Commander, Assistant Corps Commander Philip Ogar, during a motorcade rally to kick off the 2025 Ember Months Safety Campaign.
The event, which took off from the FRSC Lagos Island Unit Command office and moved through the Third Mainland Bridge to Obalende, featured public sensitization and the distribution of flyers urging motorists to shun distracted driving.

According to FRSC data, no fewer than 3,400 people lost their lives in road crashes across Nigeria between January and September 2025, while over 22,000 others sustained varying degrees of injuries from 6,858 reported incidents.
This year’s campaign, themed “Take Responsibility for Your Safety: Stop Distracted Driving,” focuses on curbing the common causes of festive season crashes such as overspeeding, fatigue, overloading, and the dangerous conveyance of passengers in haulage vehicles.
Assistant Corps Commander Ogar emphasized that road safety is a shared duty, urging both drivers and passengers to take personal responsibility for ensuring safer highways.
“Driver behaviour remains the most crucial factor in road safety. We must all take responsibility — passengers inclusive — by speaking up whenever drivers act recklessly,” he said.
Ogar added that the Corps will continue to intensify public education and enforcement efforts throughout the Ember Months, noting that safety consciousness, not luck, saves lives on the road.
The FRSC’s Ember Months motorcade rally marks the start of a series of sensitization drives across Lagos, as the Corps works to ensure that more Nigerians arrive home safely for the festive season.
