The ongoing Africast 2025 conference in Lagos has become a focal point for discussions on digital transformation, ethical regulation, and the evolving future of Africa’s broadcast industry.
Delivering a keynote presentation, the Director-General of the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), Dr. Charles Ebuebu, unveiled a forward-looking vision for Africa’s media ecosystem, emphasizing the need for innovation, collaboration, and adaptive regulation to navigate the digital era.
Dr. Ebuebu noted that this year’s theme, “Navigating the Digital Surge — Building a Resilient African Media Ecosystem for the Future,” aptly captures the sector’s current challenges and opportunities.

He reaffirmed NBC’s commitment to transparency and accountability, pledging closer collaboration with the legislature and key ministries to modernize outdated broadcast laws and align them with the realities of a digital economy.
Reinforcing this momentum, the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), Africa’s largest radio network, restated its dedication to digital transformation.
The Director, Lagos Operations, Mrs. Bolanle Owoyemi, revealed that the Corporation is upgrading its studios and retraining staff to enhance capacity and content quality.

“Technology is evolving, and we are evolving with it,” she said. “We’re aligning our content strategy to fit each platform while prioritizing staff development.”
Similarly, the Director, Abuja Operations, Mr. Awalu Muhammad, commended the leadership of Dr. Mohammed Bulama for steering FRCN’s transformation journey with renewed vigor.
“The broadcasting world has changed completely, and FRCN must stay ahead. We are setting the pace for others to follow,” he said.
At the National Broadcast Academy (NBA), FRCN’s training arm, modernization efforts are also in full swing.
Director of Training and Manpower Development, Dr. Sam Anyanwu, disclosed that the Academy has redesigned its curriculum to include courses in digital content creation, photography, and online production — positioning young media professionals for success in the fast-evolving digital environment.
As Africast 2025 unfolds, the synergy between NBC’s regulatory reforms and FRCN’s modernization drive highlights a united vision to build a resilient, inclusive, and innovative African media landscape for the future.
