The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has vowed to begin a nationwide strike from midnight of November 1, 2025, unless the Federal Government reinstates sacked members, pays outstanding arrears, and addresses other pending demands.
NARD President, Dr. Mohammad Suleiman, said about 50,000 health workers are owed nearly N38 billion in unpaid salaries and allowances accumulated over two years, with some arrears dating back a decade.
He lamented that despite repeated dialogues and extended ultimatums, government response has been inadequate.
Suleiman condemned the increasing casualisation of doctors through locum arrangements and exclusion from specialist allowances, describing the trend as “exploitative.”
He also demanded the reinstatement of five resident doctors unjustly dismissed from the Federal Teaching Hospital, Lokoja, with full payment of their entitlements.
He urged President Bola Tinubu to personally intervene, saying doctors only seek fair compensation for work already done.
