The annual Olokun Festival in Badagry has continued to enhance the tourism potential and economic development of the ancient coastal town.
The Aare Onakakanfo of Yorubaland, Iba Gani Adams, stated this during this year’s celebration held at the Aare Onakakanfo/Falola Beach, Badagry.
According to him, since the commencement of the festival in Badagry, the town has experienced remarkable transformation through the spiritual blessings of Olokun.
He added that Badagry’s fortune further improved with the discovery of crude oil in five locations across the area.
“Olokun Festival has brought spiritual and economic progress to Badagry. The town is now thriving, and the discovery of oil has further opened doors of prosperity,” Adams said.
The Yoruba generalissimo also commended the authorities for the ongoing rehabilitation of the Lagos–Badagry Expressway, noting that the improved road network has eased travel for tourists and residents alike.

The colourful event drew traditional worshippers and royal fathers from within and outside Nigeria, including the Akran of Badagry Kingdom, HRM De-Wheno Aholu Menu-Toyi I; the Jakavi I of Agemuwo Kingdom, HRM Aholu Jonah Solomon Egbenayon; the Topon Toyi-Aga I of Ajitho Kingdom, HRM Aholu Temitope Adampson; and the Agano Toniyon of Ajara Agamathen, among others.
