NRC Arrests Vandals, Restores Warri – Itakpe Rail, Service Resumes Wednesday

The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has announced the arrest of two suspected vandals believed to be behind the recent derailment of a Warri–Itakpe passenger train near Agbor in Delta State.

The suspects — 27-year-old Mudansuru Mutari and 39-year-old Blorie Kokori — were apprehended by operatives of the NRC Police Command in collaboration with local security networks around Kilometer 208, before Abraka, Delta State, on Tuesday, November 4, 2025.

Preliminary investigations and confessional statements reportedly linked the duo to the removal of rail clips and fasteners, which led to the incident.

NRC Managing Director, Dr. Kayode Opeifa, commended the Railway Police Command and community security outfits for their swift and coordinated action.

He vowed that the suspects would face the full weight of the law for tampering with national assets and endangering lives.

Describing vandalism as economic sabotage and a national security threat, Dr. Opeifa reaffirmed NRC’s zero-tolerance stance and its ongoing collaboration with security agencies to track and prosecute all offenders.

He further disclosed that restoration of the affected Warri–Itakpe track section was completed on Sunday, November 2, 2025, after thorough safety checks and operational audits.

Consequently, train operations along the corridor will resume on Wednesday, November 5, 2025.

Dr. Opeifa assured passengers that NRC remains committed to safety and reliability, with enhanced surveillance, deployment of advanced security technologies, and stronger community partnerships along all rail routes.
