The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has launched its 2025 Safety Week in Lagos with a strong message: safer airports depend not only on technology but on effective communication, emotional intelligence, and proactive conflict management across the aviation sector.
Addressing journalists at the opening ceremony, FAAN Managing Director, Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, stressed that safety cannot flourish in an atmosphere clouded by mistrust or poor interpersonal relationships.
She noted that human factors—teamwork, mutual respect, and clear communication—are just as critical as advanced infrastructure in keeping airports safe.
This year’s Safety Week, themed “Navigating Conflicts for a Safer Aviation Industry in Nigeria,” is dedicated to equipping aviation personnel with the skills to handle stress, manage disagreements, and maintain professionalism in high-pressure environments where a breakdown in communication could jeopardize safety.
Mrs. Kuku reaffirmed FAAN’s commitment to strengthening a culture of accountability and respect throughout its operations, aligning with globally recognized standards.
As part of the week-long activities, FAAN Directors will participate in an interactive session on Safety Management Systems designed to boost compliance with international safety protocols.
FAAN maintains that emotional intelligence and constructive conflict resolution are essential pillars for safer airports and improved collaboration within Nigeria’s aviation ecosystem.
The 2025 Safety Week runs through the week and will conclude with an Executive Forum on Wednesday, November 12.—
