NIWA MD Bola Oyebamiji Resigns

The Managing Director of the Nigerian Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), Chief Bola Oyebamiji, has resigned from his position.

Speaking with newsmen at the NIWA headquarters in Lokoja, Kogi State, Oyebamiji confirmed that his resignation was to contest for governorship in his state.

He explained that the decision aligns with provisions of the electoral law, noting that he intends to fully participate in the 2026 Osun State gubernatorial election. “The law allows office holders to resign and contest for positions of their choice. I have chosen to serve my state in a higher capacity,” he stated.

Oyebamiji has had a long career in public service. Before his appointment as NIWA Managing Director two years ago, he served as a member of President Bola Tinubu’s campaign team.

He was also formerly the Osun State Commissioner for Finance and later Special Assistant to the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Chief Adegboyega Oyetola.
