Governors Back FG’s Push to Expand Air Connectivity, Boost Aviation Investment

Governors of Lagos, Ogun, Borno and Imo States have pledged their full support for the Federal Government’s renewed drive to expand Nigeria’s air connectivity and attract fresh investment into the aviation sector.

Their commitments were made at the opening ceremony of the FAAN National Aviation Conference in Lagos, themed “Elevating the Nigerian Aviation Industry through Investment, Partnership and Global Engagements.”

The governors emphasized that aviation remains a vital pillar of Nigeria’s economic growth strategy and must be fully harnessed to strengthen trade, tourism, and business development nationwide.

Lagos State Governor Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Imo State Governor Senator Hope Uzodinma assured potential investors that their states offer a stable, supportive business environment with guaranteed investment returns.

Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum and Ogun, Dapo Abiodun, represented by his Deputy Mrs. Noimot Salako-Oyedele, highlighted ongoing upgrades to airports and transport infrastructure designed to improve the movement of people, goods, and services.

Speaking at the event, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, announced that regulatory processes in the aviation sector are being simplified to enhance transparency, support aircraft leasing and maintenance, expand training programs, and introduce new incentives for airport development.

He said: “Let me at this point reassure all our partners, potential and foreign investors that there has never been a time than now to invest. Opportunities abound because Nigeria’s aviation industry remains one of the most viable and under-exploited markets in Africa.”

The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Ibrahim Kana, reiterated that Nigeria is not just a large consumer market but a strategic aviation hub with bankable, investment-ready projects across the value chain.

Managing Director of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, noted that global passenger traffic is growing faster than projected, with Africa—and particularly Nigeria—positioned to benefit if the nation accelerates investment.

“This is not just a statistic—it is a signal. A signal of billions of journeys, connections, and opportunities waiting to be unlocked,” she said.

The two-day conference has attracted aviation experts, investors, and stakeholders from across the world.
