“When We Work Together, We Keep The Signal Strong” – Gbenga Owolabi‎

‎Radio Nigeria Lagos Operations has concluded its 2025 Zonal Programme Summit with a renewed call for stronger collaboration, continuous staff development and improved broadcast standards in line with modern media demands.

‎Declaring the summit open, the Director, Lagos Operations, Princess Adenike Adegoke, said the theme, “Synergy for Optimal Performance in the World of Modern Broadcast Business,” reflects the organisation’s commitment to innovation and teamwork.


‎She noted that improved cooperation across departments remains central to sustaining Radio Nigeria’s leadership in the nation’s broadcast industry.

‎The one-day summit brought together broadcast professionals, media academics and departmental heads to explore new strategies for enhancing service delivery and adapting to the fast-changing media landscape.

‎A participant and staff of the Marketing Department, Mr. Lekan Awonugha, stressed that training and retraining are essential for any organisation that seeks excellence. He noted that continuous capacity building enables workers to remain competitive and responsive in today’s dynamic broadcast environment.
‎He added that no department can operate in isolation, emphasising the need for synergy, research and regular departmental clinics to strengthen output.


‎Lead facilitator and lecturer at the Lagos State University’s Faculty of Communication and Media Studies, Dr. Gbenga Owolabi, highlighted the centrality of collaboration to impactful public broadcasting.
‎According to him, “when we work together, we keep the signal strong,” adding that effective alignment among News and Current Affairs, Marketing, Technical, and Administration units guarantees quality programming and financial sustainability.

‎Dr. Owolabi also commended Radio Nigeria for its longstanding credibility, noting that fact-checking and responsible journalism have kept the station trusted across generations.

‎Another facilitator, sociologist and media scholar, Professor Ndoka Eze Nwabueze, underscored the need for radio stations to understand their audience demographics. He explained that awareness of listeners’ age spread, preferences and needs helps shape compelling content.
‎He further warned that lack of staff motivation threatens creativity, advocating merit-based incentives and competitive welfare packages to retain top talent.

‎Other contributors at the summit included broadcast engineer, Engr. Jide Oloyede, who spoke extensively on AI in content creation and generation. Jide also disclosure that the popular assertion that AI will not take the job of any staff, rather ” AI is here to enhance the expertise of all professionals” who are ready to deploy the good use of this artificial intelligence.

‎Prof Tayo Popoola, of the University of Lagos, who was in attendance via online appreciated the FRCN for the opportunity to facilitate in the 2025 programme Summit. He talked extensively on broadcast content that attracts sponsorship, noting that the need to raise funds is at the center of the functionality of the corporation to stay afloat.
‎Popoola stressed that as media professionas, ” we should not look at the social response of programmes alone, but to  also look at the funds that such programmes will attract to the coffers of the corporation.”


‎The event was attended by top management staff, including Deputy Director Administration, Adebayo Esho, Deputy Director New Media, Julie Ekong, and General Manager, Metro FM, Maria Ihuoma, Deputy Director Programmes, Mrs Oluwatoyin Ajayi-Ope, amidst others.

‎Participants (who are staff members of all departments and units of Radio Nigeria Lagos Operation) ended the summit with a renewed pledge to deepen teamwork, improve professionalism and uphold Radio Nigeria’s reputation for credible and people-centered broadcasting.
