Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), less than 24 hours before the party’s scheduled governorship primary election.
Adeleke’s resignation became public on Monday evening through a letter dated November 4, 2025, and addressed to the PDP Chairman of Sagba Ward 2 in Ede.
In the letter, the governor cited the ongoing national leadership crisis within the party as the reason for his withdrawal.
Earlier on Monday, Osun PDP Chairman, Sunday Bisi, had announced that the primary election slated for Tuesday would not hold due to persistent factional disputes.
He also confirmed that Governor Adeleke was no longer pursuing the party’s governorship ticket.
Contrary to the state chapter’s stance, a separate communication from the PDP national secretariat insisted that the primary would proceed as planned at the Atlantic Multipurpose Hall in Osogbo.
In his resignation letter titled “Resignation of my Membership of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP)”, Adeleke expressed appreciation to the party for the political platform it provided throughout his career.
“I hereby resign my membership of the People’s Democratic Party with immediate effect due to the current crisis of the national leadership,” he wrote.
“I thank the PDP for the opportunities granted to me as Senator representing Osun West and as Governor of Osun State.”
