FG Reopens Keffi Flyover, Launches Nationwide Road Project Audit

The Federal Government has pledged greater transparency, speed, and quality in national road projects, announcing that all contracts are now under review by the ICPC and EFCC.

Minister of Works, Engr. David Umahi, said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ordered the unprecedented verification to ensure accountability and public confidence in infrastructure delivery.

Umahi made this known during the reopening of the reinstated Keffi flyover on the Abuja–Keffi Expressway, which suffered a 20-metre structural failure earlier in the year.

He praised President Tinubu for approving emergency funds within 24 hours, enabling the project’s completion in just four months and with new safety features including a twin gantry crash-prevention system.

The Minister also provided updates on the redesigned Abuja–Kano Dual Carriageway, noting that the previous design had technical gaps.

He said the adoption of continuous reinforced concrete pavement (CRCP) will extend the road’s lifespan, reduce maintenance costs, and support the government’s new build–operate–maintain PPP model targeted at revenue recovery through tolling.

Dismissing claims of slow progress, Umahi emphasized that the redesigned Abuja–Kano project is only six months old and already demonstrating significant advancement.

Opposition politicians on the inspection tour—including leaders from PDP, ADC, AA, and NNPP—commended the pace and quality of work, describing the improvements as transformational.

Technical officials confirmed that all structural components of the Keffi flyover have been fully reinstated.

The Federal Controller of Works (FCT), Engr. Yakubu Usman, said the cast deck is ready for traffic, while Acting Director of Bridges, Engr. Musa Sa’idu, noted that the newly installed gantry system has already prevented further crashes.

Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr. Rafiu Adeladan, thanked President Tinubu for prioritizing infrastructure renewal and praised Umahi’s leadership.

He assured that ministry staff remain fully aligned with the President’s mandate as the team continues active inspections with senators, presidential aides, and other stakeholders.
