Eyo Festival: LASEMA, LEMCs embark on Fitness Walk on Lagos Island, assure Visitors of adequate security

Ahead of Eyo masquerade festival on Lagos Island, the Local Emergency Management Committees, LEMCs, in Lagos Island East LCDA and Lagos Island LGA have embarked on a fitness walk to ensure they are healthy and fit for the task ahead.

The Permanent Secretary Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, led the fitness walk from the Lagos Island East LCDA secretariat to the stretch end of Adeniji Adele road on the Island.

Addressing the LEMC members, Dr Oke-Osanyintolu emphasized on the importance of total well-being of emergency workers to be able to discharge their duties efficiently and effectively.

The LASEMA PS assured residents of Lagos and visitors from diaspora coming for the Eyo masquerade festival to be rest assured of their safety, noting that the Governor Babajide Sanwo-olu’s administration has put in place measures and equipment to combat any emergency during and after the festival.

“Disaster management is everyone’s business. While our government, under the watch of this governor, we are doing our own. We’ve equipped all our stakeholders. We’ve beveled all our local emergency management committee. You need to do your own. You need to be safety conscious. You need to abide with the rules and regulations. And you need to do things in a moderate way. So that we will have a good seasonal period” Dr Oke-Osanyintolu maintained

“Well, people coming for the festival, to the people that want to watch our Adimu Festival, we are assuring them
that under the watch of Mr. Governor, we’ve conducted risk analysis, we’ve analyzed the vulnerability analysis, we have effective equipment, personnel in place. They should just come in, rejoice with us. They should be assured of their safety. We are fully on ground. Believe me, we have emergency number in place. Our emergency number is 767-112. When you call us, we’ll be right there” PS said

Council Chairman of Lagos Island East LCDA, Mr Muibi Alade-Folawiyo, commended LASEMA for being on top of its task through the sensitization and awareness campaigns on emergency and disaster management at the grassroots.

“The Islanders are peaceful people, we have sensitized them and they are aware and combat ready to forestall any emergency during Christmas, New Year celebration and the Eyo festival, it is our heritage and we must protect it with everything we have”

Vice Chairmen of both Councils who are the Team Lead for LEMCs in their domain, Mrs Mosurat Balogun and Mr Aru Folami, pledged to work in collaboration with LASEMA to train and retrain emergency handlers at the third tier of government for the safety and protection of property and lives of all Lagosians.

” We want to commend LASEMA for coming to our Council areas to drill out LEMCs, we are fully ready for the festivities to ensure safety of lives and property in our Council areas”

The Eyo masquerade festival popularly known as Adamu Orisha festival billed to hold on December 27, is in honor of late Alhaja Abibatu Mogaji, Late Alhaji Lateef Jakande and sir Micheal Otedola.
