The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau says it has commenced investigation following an aircraft accident involving a Cessna 172 operated by Skypower Express at the Sam Mbakwe International Cargo Airport in Owerri, Imo State.
The aircraft, with registration 5N-ASR, was en route from Kaduna to Port Harcourt when the crew declared an emergency and diverted to Owerri.
It crashed on approach to Runway 17 at about 8 p.m. local time.
According to the NSIB spokesperson, Mrs Bimbo Oladeji in a statement, four persons were on board, and the Bureau confirms that no fatalities have been reported.
Emergency services at the airport were immediately activated, with no post-crash fire recorded.
Flight operations at the airport have continued, as the runway remains active.
The NSIB says arrangements are underway to recover the aircraft and begin a detailed examination of the wreckage.
Reacting to the incident, the Director-General of the NSIB, Captain Alex Badeh Jr., expressed sympathy with Skypower Express and relief that all occupants survived, adding that investigation protocols have been activated and the site secured.
The Bureau says further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
