Muslims Urged to Choose Faith Over Fear at MSSN IVC

Muslims have been urged to renew their faith in Allah as a means of overcoming fear, temptations, and moral challenges confronting society.

The call was made on during the formal opening ceremony of the 115th Islamic Vacation Course (IVC) organised by the Muslim Students Society of Nigeria (MSSN), B-Zone, at Imolisa Village, Ogunmakin, Ogun State.

Delivering a lecture titled “Faith Over Fear: Navigating Temptations in a Changing World,” guest lecturer Professor Dhikrullah Olurode admonished Muslims, particularly parents to instil virtues of devotion to Allah, shun immoral habits, exemplify good character, and caution their children against greed and avarice.

Professor Olurode also charged religious leaders to intensify efforts in teaching Islamic jurisprudence, promoting good deeds, and discouraging wrongdoing to foster a better society.

“Faith is an impetus that draws the soul to obedience to Allah, while fear can be a positive or negative reaction to events, sometimes insinuated by the devil and his cohorts,” he explained.

In another lecture aligned with the IVC theme, “We Are All Responsible,” the Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, Ayede, Dr Taofeek Abdul-Hameed, noted that humanity collectively contributes to corruption and other global challenges.

He stressed the need for individuals to act responsibly for the common good, even without personal gain.

“Islam establishes individual responsibility as a core principle; every soul is accountable before Allah for his or her actions, words, and intentions,” he said.

The National Amir of MSSN, Ustaz Tajudeen Mustapha, described the Islamic Vacation Course as the society’s most impactful platform for spiritual rejuvenation, intellectual development, leadership grooming, and collective reflection among Muslim students nationwide.

According to him, “IVC has consistently served as a space for faith renewal, knowledge deepening, brotherhood strengthening, and rediscovery of purpose.”

He urged Muslim students to uphold Islamic values, contribute meaningfully to national development, and project the true image of Islam through exemplary conduct.

In his address, the Amir of MSSN B-Zone, Mallam Moshood Kolawole, said the 115th IVC is designed for soul-nourishing, moral re-awakening, spiritual rejuvenation, human capacity building, and Islamic social networking.

Mallam Kolawole explained that the theme “We Are All Responsible” was chosen to address collective responsibility for the nation’s socio-economic challenges and to propose solutions as part of Muslims’ obligation toward societal reform.

The Chairman of the occasion, Dr Hassan Giwa, emphasised the need for parents to be deliberate in providing quality training for their children, noting that responsibility demands rising above indifference.

“We must seek knowledge and translate it into responsible actions,” he advised.
