The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) is deeply saddened by the tragic loss of seven journalists who died in a fatal road accident along the Billiri–Kaltungo road on Monday evening.
Among the deceased are two members of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Gombe State Chapter.
The journalists were reportedly returning from the wedding ceremony of a colleague, a staff member of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), when the vehicle conveying them was involved in the devastating crash.
Four other journalists, including one NAWOJ member, sustained serious injuries and are currently receiving medical attention.
Reacting to the incident, the National Chairperson of NAWOJ, Hajia Aisha Ibrahim, expressed profound grief over the tragic loss and extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased, the injured victims, and the entire journalism community.
She prayed for the peaceful repose of the souls of the departed and for the injured to experience quick and full recovery.
“This tragic incident is a huge loss to the journalism profession, particularly in Gombe State and Nigeria as a whole,” she said.
NAWOJ stands in solidarity with the affected families and colleagues during this difficult time and calls on well-meaning Nigerians to join in prayers for the departed souls and the speedy recovery of those injured.
