Staff of the Network News Presentation Corps of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) have reaffirmed their commitment to delivering high-quality news and programmes, as part of efforts to further reposition the corporation as a leader in the broadcast industry.
The presenters made the pledge at their annual end-of-year get-together held in Abuja, an event that also featured a special moment of honour and support for the family of their late colleague, presenter Yahaya Umar.
The Head of Presentation and Deputy Director of News, Ms Maryam Okesanjo, described the gathering as a long-standing tradition of the corps.
She noted that this year’s event was particularly significant due to the decision to formally involve and support the family of the late presenter.
According to her, the gesture underscored the unity within the corps and their resolve to remember and celebrate the contributions of Yahaya Umar to Radio Nigeria.
“Yahaya Umar was everything Radio Nigeria stands for. He was committed, diligent and always ready to serve, even at odd hours,” Ms Okesanjo said.
“We made financial contributions to support his family, especially the upkeep of his daughter, as a show of love and solidarity during this festive season.”
She commended members of the News Presentation Corps for what she described as a remarkable year, marked by dedication, professionalism and the absence of major news presentation failures.
Ms Okesanjo urged her colleagues to enter the new year with renewed zeal and stronger commitment, expressing confidence that 2026 would be even more successful.
One of the presenters, Mr Fubara Pepple, described the gathering as “fantastic,” saying it provided an opportunity for colleagues to unwind, reflect on the year’s work and bond outside the studio.
“It is not just physically relaxing but emotionally fulfilling,” he said, adding that such interactions help presenters review their performance, identify areas for improvement and strengthen professionalism.
Another presenter, Ms Okemute Eguriase, also described the event as fun and refreshing, noting that informal interactions outside official settings enhance teamwork and on-air coordination.
“When colleagues relate better outside the office, it improves collaboration and the flow of news on air,” she said.
Representing the family of the late Yahaya Umar, Dr Comfort Omoya, sister to his wife, expressed deep appreciation to FRCN management and the News Presentation Corps for their continued support and compassion.
She described the gesture as invaluable, particularly for Umar’s 13-year-old daughter, Amira, and thanked the corporation for standing by the family during a difficult time.
The event ended on a note of gratitude, reflection and renewed commitment to excellence, unity and professionalism within the FRCN Network News Presentation Corps.
