The Plateau State chapter of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) has accused alleged Berom attackers of killing a Fulani herder and injuring another in an attack it said occurred on January 6, 2026, near Gero community in Jos South Local Government Area.
MACBAN Chairman, Ibrahim Yusuf Babayo, said the victims were returning to their cattle shed after shopping when they were ambushed around 8:00 p.m., resulting in the death of Zakariya Abdullahi and the critical injury of Jibrin Musa.
He claimed the incident was part of recurring attacks on Fulani herders across Plateau State.
According to Babayo, several herders were attacked and injured in previous incidents along Bukuru Expressway and other parts of the state in 2025.
He said the association had reported the attacks to security agencies, including Operation Enduring Peace, DSS and the Police, while urging members to remain calm and law-abiding.
However, the Berom Youths Moulder-Association (BYM) rejected MACBAN’s claims, condemning what it described as coordinated attacks on indigenous communities in Riyom and Gero areas on the same day. The group said the attacks claimed several lives, including Pius Luka Dida, Markus Danladi, Peter, and Acham Ayuba.BYM accused MACBAN of complicity in the violence, dismissing its allegations against Berom youths as false. The association also alleged destruction of farmlands worth over N14 million in Kwi and demanded the proscription of MACBAN, as well as the arrest and prosecution of its leadership.
