AFCON 2025: Super Eagles march into last four with 2–0 victory over Algeria

Nigeria’s Super Eagles have booked a place in the semi-finals of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations following a commanding 2–0 win against Algeria at the Stade de Marrakech.

The victory sets up a last-four encounter with host nation Morocco, who edged Cameroon in their own quarter-final tie.

Nigeria went into the match in fine form after thrashing Mozambique 4–0 in the Round of 16, boasting the highest goal tally at the tournament with 12 goals from four matches.

Despite facing an Algerian side that had not lost a game and had conceded just once before the quarter-final, the Super Eagles took control from the opening minutes, dictating play and pinning their opponents deep in defence.

The first half saw Nigeria create several scoring opportunities, with Akor Adams missing a clear chance and another effort cleared off the line, while Algeria relied on goalkeeper Luca Zidane to stay in the contest.

The breakthrough arrived in the second half when Victor Osimhen rose highest to power home a header and give Nigeria the lead.

The Eagles maintained their dominance, and Akor Adams later doubled the advantage, finishing off a move set up by Osimhen.

Nigeria’s midfield remained solid throughout, with Wilfred Ndidi disrupting Algerian attacks and the defence holding firm despite late substitutions by the North Africans.

The Super Eagles saw out the match with confidence and composure, sealing a deserved place in the semi-finals.

Nigeria will now turn attention to a crucial showdown against Morocco as the quest for continental glory continues.
