Lekki-Epe Repairs Begin, Traffic Diverted as Taskforce Seizes 134 Okadas

The Lagos State Government has announced a 64-day traffic diversion to enable the reconstruction of the Ajah Bridge to Admiralty section (inbound Lagos) of the Lekki-Epe Expressway.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Infrastructure, Mr Olufemi Daramola, said the rehabilitation works on Sections 2 and 3 of the expressway will commence on Sunday, January 25, 2026, and are expected to last for about 64 days.

Daramola explained that, in line with the project’s traffic management plan, construction will be carried out intersection by intersection rather than across the entire corridor at once, to minimise disruption.

He added that work would be conducted both day and night to accelerate delivery, with major intersection works scheduled for nighttime to ensure smoother traffic flow.

He noted that although a stakeholders’ meeting had been held late last year in preparation for the project, the commencement was postponed due to the Yuletide season.

With the festivities over, the contractor has now been directed to move to site and begin work.

Meanwhile, the Lagos State Task Force has intensified its clampdown on illegal commercial motorcycle operations, impounding 134 motorcycles during coordinated enforcement exercises across key parts of the state.

According to the Director of Public Affairs of the Task Force, Mr Gbadeyan Abdulraheem, the operations were carried out in two phases, following an earlier morning exercise, as part of sustained efforts to curb traffic violations, restore order on major roads and address security concerns.

He said several commercial motorcycle operators were apprehended for plying restricted routes, obstructing traffic and causing nuisance on highways and adjoining roads.

In total, 134 motorcycles were impounded, while normalcy was restored in all affected areas.
