LASEMA, Firefighters Battle Chemical Blaze at SAPID Terminal, Mile 2

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), in collaboration with the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service and LRU Fire Services, is battling a fire outbreak at the SAPID Container Terminal, located within the Amuwo-Odofin Industrial Estate, Mile 2, Lagos.

Confirming the incident, the Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, disclosed that preliminary investigations revealed the fire originated from a building situated behind the SAPID Container Terminal.

According to him, several drums containing chemicals and oils stored in the building fueled the inferno, causing it to escalate rapidly.

Dr. Oke-Osanyintolu explained that the LASEMA Eagle Response Team promptly arrived at the scene on Saturday, January 24, 2026, and immediately commenced coordinated firefighting operations alongside other emergency responders to contain the blaze and prevent its spread to adjoining facilities.

“Fortunately, due to the swift and coordinated response of all agencies involved, no lives were lost and no casualties were recorded,” he said.

He added that emergency personnel remain on ground as firefighting efforts continue, noting that the presence of highly combustible materials has made it challenging to completely extinguish the fire.

“The fire is still raging due to the nature of materials stored in the affected building. However, our teams and those of partner agencies are working tirelessly to bring the situation under control and prevent further spread to nearby structures,” Dr. Oke-Osanyintolu assured.

Emergency authorities have urged residents and businesses in the vicinity to remain calm and cooperate with response teams as containment efforts continue.
