A Kwara State High Court sitting in Ilorin has sentenced three men to death for offences relating to armed robbery and kidnapping.
The convicts — Patrick Adams, Tijani Usman and Ahmed Muhammad — were found guilty of crimes committed against a farmer, Mr Olubunmi Komolafe, and his wife, Mrs Adeola Morenikeji, at their farm in Ilorin, Kwara State.
Delivering judgment, Justice Funsho Lawal held that the prosecution proved its case beyond reasonable doubt on a four-count charge bordering on conspiracy, armed robbery, kidnapping and rape.
The court heard that on June 15, 2025, at Kangile village via the Kulende area of Ilorin, the convicts attacked the victims, robbed them of their belongings and kidnapped Mrs Morenikeji to a secluded location, where they demanded a ransom of ₦5 million.
Justice Lawal also noted that the victims were tied up during the attack, and that one of the convicts, Tijani Usman, sexually assaulted Mrs Morenikeji.
Based on the evidence before the court, the judge sentenced the convicts to death in line with the provisions of the law.
