LAWMA Deploys Enforcement Operatives To Eliminate Illegal Dumping

The Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has deployed Waste Investigation, Surveillance and Enforcement (WISE) operatives across the state to eradicate persistent waste black spots and ensure environmental sustainability along major corridors.

The Managing Director of LAWMA, Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin, disclosed this on February 4, 2026, during a news conference held to appraise the ongoing enforcement operations on Lagos Island.

Dr. Gbadegesin said that LAWMA enforcement officers arrested one individual and seized several waste carts during a coordinated operation aimed at disrupting unregulated waste movement and preventing the re-emergence of illegal dump sites.

He emphasized the need for sustained enforcement activities to strengthen deterrence and safeguard stabilized locations from renewed abuse by environmental offenders.

The LAWMA boss also urged Lagos residents to comply with approved waste disposal channels and support government efforts to keep public spaces clean and hygienic.

According to him, public cooperation remains critical to achieving a cleaner and more sustainable Lagos environment.
