Professor Timehin Urges Nigerians to Persevere Amid Life’s Challenges

Senior Lecturer in the Department of Foreign Languages, Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo, Professor Saheed Timehin, has urged Nigerians not to lose hope during difficult times, stressing that challenges are temporary and relief will eventually come.

Professor Timehin made the call while delivering a lecture at the Pre-Ramadan programme organised by the Adithat Muslim Society of Nigeria (AMSON).

He admonished individuals to avoid forbidden acts, noting that true believers are identified by strict adherence to the guidelines of God.

According to him, contentment with one’s possessions and genuine happiness for the success and wellbeing of others are essential virtues, alongside loving one’s neighbour and acting honourably in dealings with people.

The academic advised Muslims to maintain good neighbourly relations irrespective of religion or ethnicity, stressing that Islam teaches kindness and respect toward all, whether Muslim or Christian.

He called on Muslims to use the forthcoming Ramadan period as an opportunity to transition from negative behaviours to good deeds, particularly in their relationship with neighbours and the wider society.

Professor Timehin warned against stinginess and dishonesty, noting that modern society exposes people to both positive and negative influences.

He encouraged believers to give generously in the way of Allah, explaining that generosity attracts rewards and strengthens spiritual growth.

He also appealed to members and supporters of AMSON to assist the organisation in acquiring land to enhance the propagation of Islam.

The scholar expressed concern over the influence of modern media on behaviour, urging individuals to clearly define their principles, practices, and intentions.

He further called on Islamic clerics to preach with modesty and moderation to attract more adherents and ensure practices align with the teachings of Prophet Muhammad.

Professor Timehin emphasised the need for Muslims to balance religious practice with societal responsibilities, warning against the growing trend of young people seeking quick wealth, which he said often undermines the value of hard work.

He noted that while religion and culture are distinct, both must be properly balanced, advising people to emulate positive behaviours and reject negative ones.

He also urged parents to actively guide their children, warning that parental neglect could lead to poor life choices.

In his remarks, the Chief Missioner of AMSON, Alhaji Abdul-Gafar Abdul-Fatai, explained that the Pre-Ramadan lecture was organised to prepare Muslim faithful for the forthcoming holy month.

He disclosed that AMSON plans to establish a vocational centre alongside its dawah centre and appealed to well-meaning Nigerians to support the acquisition of land in or around Alimosho to actualise the project.
