The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Lagos State Council, has urged its members to always reach out to the Council whenever they encounter challenges beyond their capacity at chapel level.

The Chairman of the Council, Comrade Adeleye Ajayi, made the call at the 2nd Vanguard Newspaper Family Funfair held in Apapa, Lagos.

Comrade Ajayi said the NUJ Lagos State Council has been redefined, remodelled and repositioned to work closely with members across chapels to ensure professionalism and proper engagement with employers.

According to him, the Council prefers dialogue and negotiation over confrontation, stressing that its priority is to ensure journalists’ welfare is protected without disrupting organisational activities.

He encouraged members to promptly report unresolved issues for timely intervention.

Ajayi also commended Vanguard Newspaper for sustaining the Family Funfair initiative, noting that encouraging bonding between journalists and their families helps foster trust, understanding and support for the profession.

His message was delivered by the Vice Chairman of the NUJ Lagos Council, Comrade Phillip Nwosu.

In her welcome address, the Chairman of the NUJ Vanguard Chapel, Comrade Chioma Obinna, expressed delight at the turnout, describing the 2026 edition as an improvement on previous years.

She said over 150 adults and children participated, reflecting the growing relevance of the event within the Vanguard community.

Comrade Obinna explained that the initiative was created to give journalists and their families an opportunity to relax, bond and step away from the pressures of newsroom demands.

She thanked Vanguard management for its continued support.

Speaking at the event, the Editor of Vanguard Newspaper and President of the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE), Mr. Eze Anaba, said the presence of journalists from other media organisations showed the renewed unity and cohesion within the NUJ Lagos State Council.

He described the funfair as a platform that helps bridge the gap between the home and the workplace, especially given the demanding nature of journalism.
