WaterAid Nigeria Trains Eighteen WASHCOM Members in Odo Nla Community, Ikorodu

In its sustained efforts to ensure every community has access to clean and potable water, WaterAid Nigeria has trained eighteen members Odo nla community in Ikorodu North LCDA of Lagos on Water Sanitation and Hygiene, WASH, to promote proper Hygiene and sustainability of water facility in the community.

The community members trained are referred to as WASHCOM and the training facilitated by WaterAid Nigeria was funded DP World under its Advancing Inclusive Water, Sanitation and Hygiene, AI WASH, project.

At two day training held at Odo nla Town Hall in Ikorodu on Wednesday February 11th, 2026, the Community Development Committee, CDC Chairman, Prince Adeniran Ogunbanwo stated that the purpose of the training was to ensure that WASHCOM members are able to manage the water facilities coming the the community through WaterAid Nigeria and DP World.

Prince Ogunbanwo reiterated the commitment of the local government and community members to maintaining the projects through tariffs and donatione to elongate the functionality of the Water Facilities in the community.

According to the CDC Chairman, the training has helped members understand the challenges facing each CDA to put in place sustainability plan for the water facilities, maintenance of the project when actualised.

Earlier, WaterAid Nigeria Sanitation and Hygiene Officer, Mr Dare Oduluyi, said the objective of the two days training was to equip the WASHCOM members the prerequisite knowledge on how to maintain the water facilities provided in their communities and also sensitize and educate community members on hygiene behavioral changes to end open defecation by year 2030 in line with SDG goal 6.

Appreciating WaterAid Nigeria for the training, some of the WASHCOM members being trained said they have learnt a lot and would put it in practice and also educate residents in Odo nla community on how to practice the five hygiene behavioral changes to prevent diseases and thanked WaterAid Nigeria and DP World for investing in human capacity.

Another WASHCOM members, Alhaja Khadijah Dauda and Mr Tiamiyu Olowolayemo expressed optimism that members would not misuse the facility and promised that the water facilities would be protected against vandals when completed in the next three months.

They thanked Water Aid Nigeria for broadening their knowledge and promise to adhere to all that has been taught.
