Residents of Lagos and surrounding communities have been advised to prepare for thunderstorms and moderate rainfall as weather conditions fluctuate across parts of the country.
The advisory follows the latest forecast by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet), which indicates that Lagos and other southern states will experience cloudy skies with intervals of sunshine and thunderstorms, particularly during the afternoon and evening hours.
According to NiMet, states such as Abia and Cross River are expected to witness isolated morning thunderstorms followed by moderate rainfall later in the day, conditions that may affect transportation, commercial activities and communities in flood-prone areas.
In the North-Central region, including Abuja, residents should anticipate sunny skies with patches of clouds and possible afternoon and evening thunderstorms accompanied by light rainfall.
Meanwhile, northern cities such as Kano and Borno are likely to experience dust haze, which could reduce visibility and pose health concerns, especially for individuals with respiratory conditions.
NiMet advised residents nationwide, particularly those in affected areas, to exercise caution during rainfall, remain hydrated amid rising temperatures and stay updated through official weather forecasts.
The agency also urged motorists to drive carefully during wet conditions and encouraged vulnerable individuals, including those with asthma and other respiratory challenges, to take necessary precautions.
NiMet reaffirmed its commitment to providing timely and accurate weather information to help Nigerians safeguard lives, property and economic activities.
