House Enrols 120 Press Corps Members into FCT Health Insurance Scheme

The House of Representatives of Nigeria has enrolled more than 120 members of its Press Corps into the Federal Capital Territory Health Insurance Scheme (FHIS) as part of efforts to enhance journalists’ welfare.

At the symbolic presentation of identity cards at the National Assembly Complex, House Spokesperson, Akintunde Rotimi, said the initiative was designed to improve the wellbeing and productivity of journalists covering the Green Chamber.

Rotimi described the gesture as recognition of the Press Corps as critical stakeholders in Nigeria’s democratic process and a contribution to the drive toward universal health coverage. He noted that journalists often work long hours reporting legislative proceedings, making access to affordable and quality healthcare essential.

The Mandate Secretary of the FCT Health Services and Environment Secretariat, Dolapo Fasawe, commended the House leadership for prioritising journalists’ health, describing the move as a significant step toward expanding healthcare access. She was represented at the event by the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Baba-Gaba Adam.

Also speaking, the Chairperson of the FCT Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Comrade Grace Ike, and Chairman of the House of Representatives Press Corps, Gboyega Onadiran, described the programme as a practical step toward achieving universal health coverage and strengthening democratic governance.
