Nigeria has recorded a major boost in its aviation safety standing following the successful conclusion of a high-level technical assistance mission by the International Civil Aviation Organization, ICAO, Western and Central African Regional Office Safety Team.
At a debriefing in Abuja, Director General, Civil Aviation, Captain Chris Najomo, described the exercise as rigorous, constructive and transformational, significantly strengthening Nigeria’s preparedness for the forthcoming ICAO International Coordinated Validation Mission scheduled for April 15 to 22, 2026.
He said the engagement has sharpened regulatory systems, tightened oversight mechanisms and reinforced inter-agency coordination across the sector.
According to him, recommendations from the mission will be swiftly integrated into an accelerated action framework with clear timelines and measurable outcomes, further positioning Nigeria as a safety-focused aviation hub in the region.
The ICAO team, led by Mr. Kebba Lamin Jammeh, commended Nigeria’s responsiveness and the strong cooperation demonstrated by the NCAA and its partner agencies, describing the outcome as a reflection of firm institutional commitment to global safety standards.
With this milestone, Nigeria moves closer to its validation mission with renewed confidence and strengthened safety architecture, signaling another decisive step forward in its aviation reform journey.
