The First Lady of Lagos State, Dr Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, has reaffirmed her commitment to nurturing responsible and purpose-driven young boys through the Lagos Boy Child Initiative (LBCI), describing the programme as a strategic intervention to shape future leaders.
Dr Sanwo-Olu made the remarks during the second day of the 2026 four-day residential workshop themed “Reorienting the Boy-Child to Become an Ambassador of Societal Change,” held at St. Gregory’s College, Ikoyi, for 500 students drawn from secondary schools across the state.
The initiative, a pet project of the Office of the First Lady, is designed to provide guidance, mentorship and exposure aimed at helping boys develop into confident, disciplined and productive members of society.
According to the First Lady, the programme was conceived to address the growing need to give the boy-child adequate attention, emotional support and moral direction in a rapidly evolving society.
She noted that many boys face challenges including peer pressure, negative societal influences, substance abuse and emotional struggles that often go unnoticed, stressing that collective support from parents, leaders and stakeholders is essential to help them navigate these realities successfully.
Dr Sanwo-Olu emphasised that the workshop seeks to equip participants with the resilience, discipline and self-belief required to make informed life choices and become positive role models in their communities.
Also speaking, the Wife of the Deputy Governor, Oluremi Hamzat, encouraged the participants to strive for excellence in their academics and personal development, urging them to embrace the opportunity to learn, grow and discover their potential.
She commended Dr Sanwo-Olu for what she described as her unwavering dedication to the development of the boy-child, noting that the initiative provides a valuable platform for mentoring boys away from negative influences and towards purposeful living.
