The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, has been appointed as a Sub-National Representative in the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association African Executive Committee.
The appointment was formally communicated in a letter from the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association African Region and read on the floor of the Assembly by the Clerk of the House, Olalekan Onafeko.
According to the letter, Obasa will serve a three-year tenure from 2026 to 2029. As part of his new role, he is expected to begin his participation at the 90th Executive Committee meeting scheduled to hold in Swakopmund, Namibia.
The Commonwealth Parliamentary Association African Region works to promote and safeguard the interests of African parliaments within the Commonwealth.
It also advocates gender equality, women’s empowerment, respect for human rights, democracy, and good governance across member countries.
Following the announcement, lawmakers congratulated the Speaker, commending his leadership and describing the appointment as recognition of his dedication and contributions to legislative governance in Lagos and Nigeria.
In his response, Obasa thanked his colleagues for their support and encouraged members to remain committed to strengthening the legislature and prioritizing the progress of the Assembly.
