A Lagos Chief Magistrate Court has ordered the remand of Olushola Shedrack at the Ikoyi Correctional Centre after he failed to appear for trial at the High Court on three consecutive adjourned dates.
The remand order was issued by Magistrate Mrs Gbajumo-Ayoku following a motion ex-parte filed by the police seeking the defendant’s detention pending his arraignment before Justice Hakeem Oshodi of the Lagos State High Court.
While moving the application, police counsel Jimoh Joseph, an Assistant Superintendent of Police, told the court that the defendant had repeatedly failed to attend proceedings at the High Court, making him a potential flight risk.
Joseph therefore urged the court to grant the police request and order the defendant’s remand at a correctional facility pending further proceedings in the matter.
After hearing the submissions, Magistrate Gbajumo-Ayoku granted the application and directed that Shedrack be remanded in custody pending his arraignment scheduled for April 14.
The case follows a directive by the Lagos State Ministry of Justice, through its Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP), recommending the prosecution of the defendant over his alleged role in the forceful takeover of a landed property along the Oworonshoki–Gbagada Expressway in Lagos.
The directive came after petitions dated April 24 and April 25, 2025, submitted by Femi Ojo & Associates on behalf of Harvesters International Christian Centre, and S.O. Eletu & Co representing TWilliams Construction Company Ltd, against 11 Plc and other individuals.
The petitions were initially addressed to the Inspector-General of Police before the matter was referred to the Nigeria Police Force Zone 2 Command for investigation and later assigned to the Zonal Anti-Piracy Unit.
