Lawmakers have congratulated the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) as the organisation marks its 75th anniversary, commending its role in promoting unity and credible journalism.
The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen, said the state-owned broadcaster has significantly enhanced Nigeria’s image over the years.
In a message delivered by his media aide, he noted that FRCN has lived up to its slogan of “uplifting the people and uniting the nation,” especially at a time when misinformation and fake news are widespread.
He stressed that public broadcasters like FRCN remain vital in fostering peace, patriotism and national cohesion, urging the organisation to sustain high professional and ethical standards while promoting national values among younger audiences.
Similarly, the Deputy Speaker, Benjamin Kalu, described Radio Nigeria as a reliable hub for information and national dialogue.
He said the corporation has played a key role in documenting important moments in Nigeria’s history and bringing citizens together through impactful broadcasting.
Kalu added that the National Assembly would continue to support the organisation through legislative backing to ensure it receives adequate funding to fulfil its mandate.
Meanwhile, residents of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have also praised FRCN’s consistency and credibility over the decades, describing the 75th anniversary as a milestone in Nigerian broadcasting.
A government official, Udom Samuel Atang, said the nationwide presence promotes inclusion and strengthens national identity by connecting diverse communities.
Another official, Jumai Ahmadu, noted that the organisation has maintained public trust through accurate and timely reporting despite changes in the media landscape.
Veteran journalist Ben Adoga described Radio Nigeria as a pace-setter in public broadcasting, while other residents highlighted its extensive reach across the country as a key factor in its enduring relevance.
FRCN, regarded as Africa’s largest radio network, operates dozens of FM stations nationwide, making it one of the most accessible sources of news and information for millions of Nigerians.
As celebrations continue, stakeholders say FRCN’s legacy remains central to Nigeria’s communication sector, with expectations that it will continue to evolve and lead in the years ahead.
