2027 Fears Rise As Obi Camp Alleges Political Plot

Supporters of Peter Obi have raised alarm over what they describe as a coordinated effort to weaken his chances ahead of the 2027 general elections, warning that such actions could undermine Nigeria’s democratic process.

In a statement, his media office claimed that sustained moves since the 2023 polls have targeted the internal stability of the Labour Party and eroded his political base.

The statement pointed to a mix of legal disputes, party crises, and political manoeuvres as part of a broader attempt to frustrate Obi’s participation in future elections.

It also suggested that developments surrounding his reported alignment with the African Democratic Congress intensified opposition from rival political interests seeking to limit his influence.

Concerns were equally raised about the role of the Independent National Electoral Commission, with the media office warning that interpretations of court rulings and decisions on party leadership could shape who ultimately participates in the elections.

The group cautioned that such actions risk creating the perception of an uneven playing field and weakening public trust in democratic institutions.

Echoing similar fears, Oyo State governorship aspirant Niyi Aborisade accused the Federal Government of attempting to destabilise opposition parties nationwide.

He cited recent developments within the ADC, including the delisting of some party leaders, as evidence of what he described as political interference capable of stifling credible opposition and democratic competition.

However, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, Princewill Dike, dismissed the allegations, insisting that no amount of criticism or propaganda would stop President Bola Ahmed Tinubu from securing re-election in 2027.

He argued that many of the administration’s critics were driven by political ambition rather than genuine concern for democracy.
