The Management of Bi-Courtney Aviation Services Limited says the recent increase in parking tariffs at the Murtala Muhammed Airport Terminal Two, MMA2, is a necessary step to tackle growing congestion and restore order at the facility.
In a statement, the operator explains that the multi-storey car park was originally designed for short-term use by passengers and legitimate airport visitors, but has increasingly been occupied by vehicles left for extended periods, in some cases for months and even years.
This, it says, has reduced parking availability, forcing travelers to spend long periods searching for spaces, leading to delays and, in some instances, missed flights.
According to the management, the situation has also contributed to traffic build-up around the terminal, affecting drop-off and pick-up zones and overall passenger experience.
It adds that long-term and abandoned vehicles pose security and operational challenges, increasing the cost and complexity of maintaining surveillance and safety standards at the terminal.
The tariff review, the operator notes, is not aimed at generating revenue but at discouraging prolonged parking, improving space turnover, and ensuring that genuine airport users have access to parking.
MMA2 management maintains that the measure is part of broader efforts to sustain safety, efficiency, and seamless passenger movement, while calling for the understanding and cooperation of travelers and stakeholders.
