The Director General, National Institute for Hospitality and Tourism, NIHOTOUR, Dr. Abisoye Fagade, has dissolved the governing board of the Hospitality and Tourism Sector Skills Council of Nigeria, in a major shake-up aimed at overhauling skills development across the industry.
Speaking in Ibadan at the 50th anniversary of the National Association of Nigeria Travel Agencies, Dr. Fagade said the decision followed a comprehensive review and is designed to create a more effective, inclusive, and nationally aligned system.
He described the move as a transition to reposition the council to better meet current industry demands, improve coordination, and deliver globally competitive standards.
A new governing structure, including fresh leadership and broader institutional representation, is expected to drive certification, competency, and workforce transformation in the sector.
The NIHOTOUR boss linked the reform to the Federal Government’s wider push under the Renewed Hope Agenda to formalize the tourism industry, boost job creation, and strengthen economic growth.
He also used the occasion to commend NANTA’s five decades of influence in Nigeria’s travel space, reaffirming NIHOTOUR’s commitment to raising standards and professionalism across the industry.
The event drew key players from across the travel, tourism and hospitality, as stakeholders signal a new phase of collaboration to reposition the sector for global competitiveness.
