The Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Shehu Mohammed, has issued a stern warning to motorists and the public against assaulting road safety operatives, following the arrest of a suspect involved in an attack on officials in Edo State.
The warning comes after a violent incident that occurred in the early hours of Saturday, April 11, 2026, when an FRSC patrol team from the Edo Sector Command stopped a vehicle for a seat belt violation.
According to the Corps, the driver defied officers and fled the scene while an FRSC Marshal was still engaged in enforcement.
The situation escalated when the suspect allegedly mobilised a group of commercial tricycle operators who attacked the patrol team.
During the assault, one Marshal was pushed into a gutter and physically attacked, while the team leader also sustained injuries.
The suspect reportedly escaped immediately after the incident.
However, through a coordinated operation involving the Nigeria Police Force and the Department of State Services (DSS), the suspect was tracked and apprehended.
Authorities confirmed that the suspect has confessed to the crime and expressed remorse for his actions.
Reacting to the development, the FRSC Corps Marshal condemned the attack, describing it as a serious criminal offence.
He reiterated that the Corps maintains a zero-tolerance policy toward violence against its personnel.
Corps Marshal also commended the swift response of security agencies, noting that their collaboration ensured the suspect was brought to justice.
He stressed that due legal process would be followed, adding that the case would serve as a deterrent to others who may consider attacking law enforcement officers.
The Corps further urged members of the public to cooperate with its operatives and seek redress through official channels rather than resorting to violence.
Meanwhile, the injured Marshal is reported to be in stable condition and receiving medical care.
The FRSC reaffirmed its commitment to road safety enforcement and protecting its personnel, vowing to continue working with relevant agencies to identify, arrest, and prosecute offenders.
