SSANU Threatens Industrial Action Over Delay in Renegotiation Talks

The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) has threatened to embark on industrial action if the Federal Government fails to conclude ongoing renegotiation processes by the end of April.

This was contained in a communiqué issued by the National President of SSANU, Muhammad Ibrahim, at the end of a Special National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held over the weekend in Abuja.

The NEC stated that the union would not accept any outcome below the agreements already reached with the Federal Government, stressing that members’ welfare and rights remain non-negotiable.

SSANU also expressed concern over what it described as misleading reports in the public space suggesting that the renegotiation process had been concluded.

The union clarified that discussions were still ongoing and warned against misinformation.Comrade Ibrahim called on members across the country to remain vigilant and prepare for the next line of action should the government fail to meet the April deadline.

Earlier, the Joint Action Committee of the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions and SSANU had issued an ultimatum to the Federal Government from April 1 to April 30, 2026, to conclude negotiations and sign agreements to avert industrial action.

The communiqué reaffirmed SSANU’s commitment to defending the interests of its members nationwide.
