Corps Members Urged To respect Nigeria’s Cultural Diversity

Corps members have been urged to respect the nation’s diverse cultures to further foster unity and peace in the country.

The Coordinator, National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, Lagos State, Mrs. Christiana Salmwang gave the plea at the Swearing-in of the 2026 Batch ‘A Stream two Corps members deployed to Lagos state, held at NYSC Temporary Orientation camp in Iyana Ipaja, Agege.

She explained that one of the unique features of Nigeria is the diverse ethnicity and cultures.

She said that these features must be tapped into to foster peace and unity in the country rather than create disharmony.

She stressed that since one of the mandate of the NYSC is to foster unity among diverse cultures in the country, National Youths Corps members must join the Corps in propagating peace and unity wherever they found themselves as they engage in the one year mandatory national service at different places they might found themselves .

Mrs. Salmwang however, urged the 2026 Batch ‘A Stream two Corps members to participate actively in all camp activities and adhere strictly to all camp rules reeled out to them.

The NYSC boss in Lagos State seized the opportunity of the forum to thank the Lagos State government for renovating the key facilities at the Iyana-Ipaja Temporary Orientation Camp ahead of
2026 Batch ‘A Stream two orientation course.

She explained that part of the renovated facilities are toilets and plumbing facilities in the female hostel and the Camp Hall, so as to create a more conducive environment for camp activities.

In a message to the event, the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu welcome the Corps members warmly to the state and encourage them to take the three weeks orientation exercise seriously.

He emphasised that the Corps members should take advantage of the various empowerment programmes packaged into the three weeks orientation course as these trainings were meant to make them job creators rather than job seekers.

He urged the Corps members to be security conscious wherever they found themselves and be there brother’s keeper.

Justice George Akingbade later administered the Oath of Allegiance on the Corps members on behalf of the Chief Judge of Lagos State, Justice Kazeem Alogba.
