Citizens Are Our Bosses – IGP Disu Tells Officers in Lagos

The need to deepen trust between security agencies and the public took centre stage as the Inspector-General of Police, Mr Olátúnjí Disu, visited Lagos on Saturday on a working engagement that included a stop at the Bagauda Kaltho Press Centre in Alausa, Ikeja.

Mr Disu visited after inspecting the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) headquarters nearby, where he once served as Commander.

Speaking with members of the Lagos State Governor’s Office Correspondents, LAGOCO, the IGP expressed delight at returning to a familiar environment, recalling the strong professional relationship he maintained with journalists during his time at the RRS.

He noted that the proximity between the RRS and the press centre had, at the time, encouraged collaboration and improved understanding between both institutions, which he said supported effective public communication and service delivery.

Mr Disu explained that his Lagos programme also included meetings with senior police officers and an engagement with the State Governor, in addition to an address to personnel of the Rapid Response Squad.

He charged officers to remain professional in the discharge of their duties, warning against conduct capable of undermining public confidence in the police, and emphasised the need for respectful treatment of citizens at all times.

According to him, modern policing requires strong community partnership, stressing that members of the public must be seen as collaborators in maintaining safety and security.

He added that his visit to the press centre was also to appreciate journalists for their continued support and to sustain the cordial relationship built over the years between the media and the police.

Responding on behalf of the Lagos State Governor’s Office Correspondents’, the association’s Chairman, Mr George Okojie welcomed the Inspector-General and described his elevation as well deserved.

He recalled Mr Disu’s tenure as RRS Commander, highlighting his accessibility, responsiveness to journalists, and concern for their welfare.

Mr Okojie expressed confidence in his leadership, noting that his tenure would further strengthen the operational effectiveness and public image of the Nigeria Police Force.
