The Lagos Governance Advisory Council (GAC), the highest decision-making body in Lagos State and the apex political caucus of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has adopted the Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Dr Obafemi Hamzat, as its consensus governorship aspirant for the 2027 general election.
The decision was reached on Tuesday during a closed-door meeting at Lagos House, Marina, signalling a major consolidation of support within the ruling APC in the state.
Speaking with journalists after the meeting, GAC Leader, Prince Tajudeen Olusi, expressed confidence in Dr Hamzat’s leadership capacity, noting that he is well-positioned to build on the achievements of previous administrations and further advance the development of Lagos.
Prince Olusi also disclosed that the council had resolved to collectively purchase the party’s nomination and expression of interest forms, valued at ₦50 million, for the deputy governor as an indication of its firm backing.
In a related development, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu revealed that the Lagos APC had also purchased the presidential nomination form for Bola Tinubu, citing confidence in his administration’s Renewed Hope reforms.
The endorsement positions Dr Hamzat as a leading contender within the APC as political activities gradually gather momentum ahead of the 2027 elections.
