Lagos Receives Assistive Devices for Children with Disabilities, Expands Inclusive Care

The Lagos State Government has received assistive devices, including pediatric wheelchairs, crutches and eyeglasses, to support children with disabilities and special needs across the state.

The items were donated by Clinton Health Access Initiative under programmes aimed at strengthening early identification and inclusive care systems.

At the handover in Lagos, officials said the intervention would improve mobility, learning and social participation for beneficiaries, while easing the burden on caregivers.

Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Ministry of Health, Dayo Lajide, said the initiative reflects the government’s commitment to ensuring that every child, regardless of ability, has access to quality care and opportunities to thrive.

She noted that assistive devices play a critical role in helping children participate more actively in school and daily life, while strengthening inclusion in communities.

Representing the donor organisation, Chizoba Fashanu, said early intervention remains key to improving outcomes for children with developmental challenges.

She disclosed that the programme has screened thousands of children and provided support through assistive technologies and play-based interventions.

Officials of the Lagos State Office for Disability Affairs described the initiative as a step toward promoting equal rights and opportunities for persons with disabilities.

Beneficiaries and caregivers welcomed the support, noting that the devices would significantly improve mobility and quality of life for affected children.

The state government reaffirmed its commitment to expanding inclusive healthcare and strengthening partnerships to ensure no child is left behind.
