The President and Chairman of the Governing Council of the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria, Mrs Yetunde Ilori, has announced that the 2026 Insurance Week will hold from May 18 to May 22 across several cities in Nigeria.
Speaking during a media briefing, Ilori described the Insurance Week as an initiative aimed at deepening insurance awareness, promoting stakeholder engagement and strengthening collaboration within the industry.
She explained that following the success of the maiden edition held simultaneously in Lagos, Ibadan, Port Harcourt and Kano last year, the 2026 edition would expand to additional locations including Ekiti, Abuja, Ondo, Owerri and Abeokuta.
According to her, the theme for this year’s event is “Insurance: A Future Redefined,” with activities lined up to improve public understanding of insurance, increase industry visibility and encourage professional development among practitioners.
Ilori stressed the need to address misconceptions surrounding insurance through sustained public enlightenment, noting that insurance remains critical to financial stability and economic growth.
“We want everyone to be educated about insurance for financial stability and economic growth to counter the misconceptions out there about insurance. We cannot counter such misconceptions in our offices,” she said.
She added that the initiative would also help introduce insurance to younger generations while nurturing talents for both Nigeria and the wider West African region.
The CIIN president further expressed optimism that the 2026 Insurance Week would mark another positive milestone for the insurance industry, saying the planned activities were designed to leave lasting impressions on practitioners, policyholders and the general public.
Some of the activities scheduled for the week include a wellness and awareness walk, unveiling of two insurance books for elementary schools, panel discussions involving non-insurance professionals, recognition of individuals and organisations, appointment of industry ambassadors, engagements with schools and MSMEs, as well as a hackathon demo day.
Ilori also commended the media for its support during the maiden edition and appealed for continued partnership to ensure the success of this year’s programme.
Reflecting on the impact of last year’s event, she disclosed that filmmakers had requested specialised insurance products tailored to their industry, while the hackathon initiative encouraged inclusivity and boosted sales for insurance companies and micro-insurance agents.
