The Association of Nigeria Aviation Professionals (ANAP) has expressed deep concern over what it describes as the continued assault of civilian airport workers by personnel of the Nigerian Air Force at civil airports, calling for urgent intervention to halt the trend.
In a statement issued by its Deputy Secretary General, Comrade Ocheme Aba, ANAP alleged that the latest incident occurred on May 11, 2026, at the Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa, where the Head of Operations at the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Mr. Ekene Enechukwu, was reportedly assaulted by an Air Force personnel at a military checkpoint near the airport toll gate.
According to the association, Mr. Enechukwu, a Deputy General Manager, was responding to an emergency fire alert when he was allegedly misjudged as he moved in haste, leading to the attack that left him injured.
ANAP described the incident as part of a recurring pattern of unprovoked assaults on civil aviation workers by armed personnel at Nigerian airports, despite repeated complaints in the past.
The association warned that it may be compelled to take further steps following consultations if such incidents persist.
It is demanding an unreserved apology from the Nigerian Air Force and disciplinary action against the personnel involved, insisting that such conduct is unacceptable in a civilian aviation environment.
The association stressed that “enough is enough,” urging immediate measures to prevent a recurrence.
